The Scenery

The scenery around Salavas is shaped by the fertile Ardeche Valley and its numerous side valleys. Towards the North and the West rise the mountains of the Ardeche and the Cevennes. Mediterranean landscapes take turns with rugged giant canyons and agricultural areas on which mostly wine is cultivated. Forests with mediterranean oaks, olive groves and far-ranging chestnut-forests towards the Cevenns are interrupted by pastures and gorse-fields which provides a contrast to the rugged rocks and the natural monuments like the famous stone arc of the Pont d’Arc. The colours yellow, green and purple dominate spring and summer and in autumn the landscape changes to a colourful paint box of different shades of red, green and yellow.
